Laser Jammers
Back to Ticket Avoidance Unlike radar jammers, which are usually a hoax and are highly illegal, laser jammers do exist which are highly effective against Lidar Guns. Laser jammers work by transmitting 904nm IR laser back at the laser gun, therefor blanking out the vehicle's return signal. This confuses the laser gun and it cannot compute a speed reading. The LTI Marksman 20-20 does show an error code which means the gun is being jammed, although most police officers will not know. Active laser jammers work in two different ways. The first set transmit for only a brief period (2-5 seconds) and then shut off, wait 60 seconds, and transmit again if they are still receiving a laser signal. This is due to their Gallium-Arsenide laser, which will overheat beyond the several seconds. The theory is that at highway speeds, you will have covered several hundred feet and passed the officer by the time it shuts down. This also means that you will only have a few seconds to slow down, before the officer's gun gets a speed reading, if you do not pass him. The second set of laser jammers work by transmitting a signal until they pass the laser gun. These jammers usually have several high powered 904nm LED which do not easily overheat. Examples of this type of jammer are the Laserjam Raven and the K40 Defuser Plus. These two jammers are also laser detectors. They feature an in-cabin alert unit, which will alert the driver when it picks up a laser signal.
The Raven comes on a universal bracket to fit almost any license plate. The unit is more compact than the K40 Defuser Plus, which comes attached to a license plate frame. One significant feature of the Raven is that up to three emitters can be attached to a single in-cabin control unit. Each emitter receives it's own warning light on the control unit. The control unit warns the driver by both an audible alarm and the warning light.
